Big G Haiti resources

Google’s got a page set up with comprehensive Haiti resources, like a “Finder” box to locate people that are missing.  Click here for more.

An email, then tragedy

In South Florida last Tuesday, Peggy Bourland got an email from her husband at 4:51pm ET.  Her husband, Air Force Major Ken Bourland, had just arrived in Haiti and was at the Hotel Montana near Port-au-Prince, getting ready to take a disaster preparedness course.

Ten minutes later, the city and hotel was leveled.

Their story is here.

Tech sites help with Haiti relief

Apple’s website has a link that takes you to iTunes where you can donate to the American Red Cross. Big G’s got a link off the front door with comprehensive Haiti relief info- check it out. WSJ.com also has a good link here. Yahoo! has a link off their special logo that goes here.  Ask.com’s is here. Bing’s link takes you to MSNBC. Amazon’s got a graphic that goes here. Give ’til it hurts- this country had nothing to begin with, and now they have even less.

Haiti scammers on Twitter

Remember this where I mentioned about how you could get email scams from vile people saying they would take donations to help the Haitians? Well, sadly, I was right, and at the moment, the big scam involves Twitter and a scam involving free airfare for medical personnel to get them into the region.  Totally bogus, and beneath contempt. Check Twitter here for the latest from the peeps.

Google Earth updated with new Haiti imagery

Google Earth is updated with the latest imagery from Haiti.  Learn more here, and click here for the necessary KML file.  These are before-and-after screenshots of the Presidential Palace and an area of Port-au-Prince.

The wreckage in Haiti

CNN’s Susan Candiotti is one of many US media types on the scene in Haiti.  All the networks have a ton of people bringing the story back.  Meanwhile- and televangelists wonder why they have a bad rep- Pat Robertson was actually quoted as saying that the massive quake was some type of payback for “making a deal with the devil.” Pat, the mothership is waiting to take you back to whatever planet you’re from.
