Charlie Gillett age 68, R.I.P.
St. Patrick’s Day has not been kind to the world of music today. Over in U.K., music journalist, rock’n’roll historian, BBC presenter and world music enthusiast Charlie Gillett passed away after a long illness. Author of one the first acclaimed histories of rock’n’roll and popular music ( The Sound Of The City: The Rise Of Rock And Roll), he achieved further renown for introducing BBC radio listeners in the UK to such unknown and then unsigned musical artists as Graham Parker, Elvis Costello and Dire Straits, then later as a tireless and significant promoter of world music and cultures.
