Google fired a warning shot across the bow of Netflix, Amazon VOD and Apple’s streaming rental movie business this Friday.

Yeah, but will I be able to get Cabin Boy?
From Jan 22-31, you can rent streams of up to five videos form 2009 and 2010 Sundance Film Festivals. The cost will be at $3.99 for 48hrs rental. In coming weeks, Google will be finalising partner deals with indepenedent studios, major studios and other industries, streaming films that will run the gamut from instructional, educational, entertainment , etcetera. YouTube will allow its partners to set the prices, unlike Apple’s tiered version in its iTunes Music Store. I don’t think we’ll be seeing Avatar or UP on this new service anytime, soon.
