Maybe you’ve seen the stories where AT&T flacks say Operation Chokehold “had no impact at all today.” Maybe you feel like it was all for nothing. If so, check out these charts.
First chart is AT&T’s stock price over the past three months. Hey, the’ve been kicking ass since they reported that strong quarter in late October, with “record wireless gains.”
But what’s that sudden change of direction at the far right side? Let’s take a look at the chart for the past five days:
Huh. Suddenly the shares go down. Now, it’s no big deal. Over the whole week, shares were down just 73 cents. Who cares about that, right? I mean, when you multiply that 73 cents by AT&T’s 5.9 billion shares outstanding, you’re looking at a drop in market value of $4.3 billion.
Yeah. No impact at all. And it probably had nothing to do with that blitz of bad publicity. Nah. Couldn’t be. Oh well.
