“Cratering.” A terrific word, very evocative. Dictionary.com defines it thusly: “To fail utterly.” This article says that very thing is happening to AOL Mail, which is vital to the company. Why? Nearly half of AOL’s homepage traffic came from email. Other AOL properties like Mapquest, News, Finance and Living also depend on AOL Mail. If the mail service loses its user base, it stands to reason other pages will suffer as a consequence. (Like the retro logo better than the new one?)
